11th Battalion Volunteer Infantry

From Bergeron, La. Confed. Units, 164-65:

"This battalion was organized at Monroe on May 14, 1862, with six companies and 580 men.  The men remained in the Monroe area through the fall doing picket duty and drilling.  In December, the battalion moved to Rosedale to protect the Bayou Grosse Tete region from enemy incursions from Baton Rouge.  Early in 1863, the battalion fell back to the area of Simmesport and Fort DeRussy.  The men retreated to Natchitoches in May, when Federal forces advanced against Alexandria.  Company F participated in the defense of Fort Beauregard at Harrisonburg on May 10 and 11.  The battalion accompanied General Richard Taylor's army into south Louisiana in June and participated in all of the marches of General Alfred MOUTON's infantry brigade during the summer and fall.  On November 3, the battalion was united with the Crescent (24th) Regiment and the 12th [Confederate Guards Response] Louisiana Battalion at Simmesport to form the Consolidated Crescent Regiment."
