From Bergeron, La. Confed. Units, 160:

"This battalion was formed at Manassas, Virginia, on October 1, 1861, by the combination of the 1st Company Foot Rifles and Crescent Blues Company B.  The men were assigned to the Washington Artillery Battalion as sharpshooters.  On November 1, the Catahoula Guerrillas joined the battalion from the 1st [Wheat's] Louisiana Special Battalion, giving the unit a total strength of 246 men.  The battalion moved to Yorktown in March, 1862, when the army evacuated Manassas.  During the Battle of Williamsburg, May 5, the men occupied a redoubt near Fort Magruder and suffered only 2 casualties--1 man killed and 1 wounded.  On May 31, the battalion was attached to the 1st [Coppens'] Louisiana Zouave Battalion, and the new unit was called the Regiment of Louisiana Zouaves and Chasseurs.  The men fought in the battles of Fair Oaks, May 31-June 1, and Beaver Dam Creek, June 27, during the Seven Days' Campaign.  On June 24, Companies B and C had received orders to report to the 3rd Louisiana Battalion; but because of the marches and fighting during the campaign, they could not do so until August 1.  On that day, those two companies joined the 3rd Louisiana Battalion, which then became the 15th Louisiana Regiment.  Company A remained with the 1st Louisiana [Coppens'] Zouaves Battalion, becoming its second Company E."
