Organization: Organized as a cavalry company on May 14, 1862. Converted to artillery service at Grand Ecore, Louisiana in May 1863. Captured at Fort De Russy, Louisiana on March 14, 1864. Exchanged on June [July] 22, 1864. It, however, never reorganized. The men scattered on cavalry duty.

"This company was organized May 14, 1862, as the St. Martin Rangers [and in June became Company G, Yellow Jacket Battalion Infantry]. The company converted to artillery in May, 1863, at Grand Ecore. Though formally assigned in June to the 16th [Confederate Guards Response, also 12th] Louisiana Infantry Battalion as Company D, the company remained an independent unit known as King’s Battery. The men had one 30-pounder Parrott rifled gun and three 24-pounder guns, all pulled by oxen—which resulted in the nickname ‘Bull Battery.’ The battery occupied several camps near Alexandria from June to September. By early November, the battery had moved to Natchitoches but shortly received orders to report to Fort DeRussy on the Red River near Marksville. The men sent off their 30-pounder Parrott and one of their 24-pounders upon the approach of a Federal army in early March, 1864. The battery participated in the defense of Fort DeRussy on March 14, and its men became prisoners when the fort surrendered. Exchanged on June [July] 22, the men moved to south Louisiana and served as cavalrymen or mounted infantrymen until the end of the war."

"St. Martin Rangers Company Infantry (St. Martin). Captain E. W. Fuller, died July 15, 1863; Captain Edward T. King. Organized May 14, 1862, near St. Martinville [and in June became Company G, Yellow Jacket Battalion Infantry]. Operated as cannoneers and crewmen on gunboats Music, Cotton, and Mary T until the summer of 1863. Converted into an artillery company at Grand Ecore and became known as King's Louisiana Battery."
